Breaking News: Matt Cassel Traded To The Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have found their starting quarterback. The Chiefs acquired QB Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots in a trade Today, Saturday Feb 28th. The teams have agreed on compensation, but no details of the deal are available yet.
The Kansas City Chiefs acquired quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel from the New England Patriots in exchange for a second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Cassel was nailed with the franchise tag by the Pats on Feb. 5, guaranteeing him $14.65 million next season.
Cassel had a QB rating of 89.4 with 3,693 yards and 21 TD’s in 2008.

Wow, such a good fit for him and the Chiefs, Dwayne Bowe and Gonzo must LOVE this!
I’m willing to bet money Cassel will end up being a bust, he had one good year and he was throwing the best receiver in football(Randy Moss) along with the best possession receiver(Wes Welker).
Hard to have back to back 400 yard games I dont care who your receivers are, this is a steal for Cassel and then throw in Vrabel too, yeah they have hefty contracts but the Chiefs have space and only have to give up a second rounder… did you notice right before this trade the Chiefs let go of Surtain, Edwards, and someone else thats name is slipping my mind… looks like those moves were premeditated
I thought Thigpen played well…? I think Cassel will do good as well though, Vrabel is a huge bonus, pats got ripped off IMO, unless they just wanted to clear some cap room…
Have to agree with Kittels on this one…..easy to be a good qb in that system, with one of the best Offensive Lines in the game good luck in KC…just ask Larry Johnson how good that o-line is.
Ask Larry Johnson how hitting women is… Who is better Thigpen or Cassel?
Well, the Patriots are acquiring the second pick in the second round (34th overall) so it is in essence a first round pick. Also, getting rid of the two of them (Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel) combined frees up close to $20-million in cap space.
Mike Vrabel regressed a lot last season. He’s going to be 34 by next season’s opener and barely has anything left in the tank. At this point he’s pretty much there to help transition the Chiefs to a 34-front base defense.
Also, with that second round pick and the expected third-round compensation pick for Asante Samuel the Patriots will have one first round pick, three second round picks, and two third round picks. That would mean six picks in the top 100 picks in the draft.
I’m very happy with the trade, and happy with the fact that Matt Cassel is going to a team that is going to turn the corner in the next few years.
“team that is going to turn the corner in the next few years”
THATS DEBATABLE!!!!
Brady better have his game back! I know Cassell was an extremely expensive insurance policy but damn he was a nice back up plan.. Kansas City will be decent but still nothing to get excited about yet
What happened to when they were saying Brady might not even be ready and his recovery was behind sched? Now they are trading their back up plan for a 2nd round pick?!
Typical Patriot style, lead the public to believe they are in worse shape then they are…..kinda like when Tom Brady was seen the week before the Super Bowl at Gizelles crib in a walking boot or the fact that he is on the injury report every week.
I hate everything about New England and I mean everything.
even teddy bruschi?
Exactly you dont see the packer’s claiming Nick Barnett had a stroke……..Good ol’ New England and the “poor me” attitude
This Just In: Bill Bellicheat has gone mute, that’s right he can no longer see or hear. Will he still try for a historic and inspiring recovery… stay tuned!
wait…wait: turns out he was just asleep.
Spot on
