Papa Bears Easy Money Pick Of The Week

sportsbook

One of my favorite things about the NFL season is betting. I think the same can be said for a lot of football fans world-wide. The advice I offer is strictly optional, never make a bet you don’t feel comfortable with or you will just grow to resent me.

My Parlay Card (TEASER) Week 7:

Packers: -3
Colts: -8
Falcons: +10

And my EASY MONEY PICK OF THE WEEK IS:
Falcons: +4 (hell I even took them to win straight up)

Good luck this week, Win some $$$

  • The Big East Is Killing Each Other!

    bigeastdead

Last nights 3 hour and 36 minute EPIC game between Syracuse and UConn, that went into 6OT with a combined 244 points, 8 players fouling out and 6 players getting double-doubles, was the second longest game in conference history. It leaves me asking myself, after some pretty high scoring and intense Big East Conference Tournament games, is there going to be anything left for the big dance?!

“I can’t even feel my legs right now,” Flynn said. “It was a tough game, we battled it out…” and they are not done yet, not by a long shot “…but we have to turn it around — today (game ended at 1:22am) — and face a tough team in West Virginia.”

It seems like with a lot of major talent in the Big East this year could work against them in the NCAA Tournament. Teams that go deep are going to be tired and beat up, which in the past has cost great teams amazing conference wins, but disappointing first round NCAA Tournament losses.

  • Conference Championship Week BABY!!!!!

    vcu

Now that its championship week in college basketball let’s see what kind of upsets are brewing. This is a list of teams that have won their conference tournaments and are automatic bids into the tournament:

Robert Morris (23-10) Northeast, Radford (18-11) Big South, Stephen F. Austin (17-7) Southland, Binghamton (21-8) American East, Western Kentucky (22-8) Sun Belt, Northern Iowa (22-10) MVC, VCU (24-9) CAA, Bowling Green (16-12) MAC, Morgan St (19-11) MEAC, Cornell (19-9) Ivy, American (23-7) Patriot, East Tenn St (21-10) Atl Sun, North Dakota St (23-6) Summit, Weber St (20-8) Big Sky, CS Northridge (14-13) Big West, Morehead St (17-15) OVC, Chattanooga (—–) SoCon, Alabama St (—–) SWAC, Cleveland St (—–) Horizon, Sienna (—–) MAAC, Gonzaga (—–) WCC. ((—–) signifies no record available at time)

Which one if any of these schools already in the tournament even have a chance to go anywhere let alone win ONE game. The obvious choice here is bracket mainstay Gonzaga, with Pargo and (mushroom man) Heyphelt they have some pieces that will allow them to make a run in the tourney. However if you watched any early season NCAA basketball you know Gonzaga got whopped by everyone good that they played which leads me to believe they are a one and done.

My dark horse from this list is VCU, they have this guy Maynor who led them to a win in the tourney 2 years ago when they upset Duke. Maynor has been the CAA player of the year the last two years and looks to be on the brink of establishing himself as the next Stephen Curry. They are really one of the only teams from this list that has a chance, but of course that will strongly depend on their matchup.

Other possibilities include WKU (they two games last year in the tourney, Sienna (back to back tourney appearances and has four or five really good 3 point shooters), and Northern Iowa (something about this team intrigues me).

But my favorite part of conference championship week is when the upset happens like last night with Cleveland St and now Butler is probably going to get an at-large which takes one more at large bid away from a St. Mary’s or San Diego St (who IMO don’t deserve to be in anyways). Bubbles bursting all week and I look forward to the major conference tourneys this weekend most notably the Big East, Big Ten, SEC, and ACC.

  • Feendz!! Bracketology 09′

    marchmadness

So ESPN.com’s Joe Lunardi is a Bracketology god and seems to know everything that will happen in college basketball come march. As of this week he is reporting that the last four into the tourney are South Carolina, Maryland, Michigan and New Mexico. The last four out then would be Arizona, Kentucky, Providence, and San Diego State, and he also includes the next four out which are Virginia Tech, Miami (FL), Rhode Island, and Saint Mary’s. Taking all this information in I truly believe that Providence is getting the total shaft here, Michigan does have some wins against top 5 teams but they play in a much weaker conference than Providence (who also have a couple very nice wins). I also have to shudder at the fact that New Mexico a team from the Mountain West could make it over most of the 8 final teams out.

If it wasn’t enough to debate the last teams in, here is a breakdown of some of the teams and their seeds:

1’s : Pittsburgh, UConn, UNC, and Oklahoma (Does the Big East deserve two, is Oklahoma a true #1)

2’s: Duke, Memphis, Michigan St, and Louisville (Memphis is questionable and does the Big East deserve 2 1’s and a 2?)

3’s: Wake Forest, Villanova, Kansas, and Missouri (Does the Big 12 rank this high, and Wake has a bunch of bad losses)

4’s: Xavier, UCLA, Washington, and Clemson (Big ?’s with Washington and Clemson)

Wisconsin is a 10 seed and Marquette is a 5 seed (I had to add them because I’m such a homer)

This is just a run down of the top 4 seeds as Lunardi has them if you want the full list here is the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

Finally, the other interesting thing I noticed while studying up on my bracketology is the conference breakdown and whether or not the conferences are deserving of so many teams or not enough.

    Big Ten (8), ACC (7), Big East (7), Big 12 (6), Mountain West (4), Pac-10 (4), SEC (3), A-10 (2), Missouri Valley (2)

I think it’s a joke that the Big East and ACC don’t have more and that the Mountain West having as many teams as the Pac-10 or more than the SEC (which is a question in it’s own right; what has happened to SEC basketball)??

What do you all think? What teams should be in and what teams should be out, what should the seeding look like, and what conferences deserve the most bids? Let’s all try to put on our best Joe Lunardi impressions…

  • The BCS Needs To DIE!

    bcs

Ah, the Bowl Championship Series… Everyone loves it, there is nothing like waking up come bowl time and finding out how fucked your team got by the “Beyond Common Sense” system. Does ANYONE actually want the BCS to stay, besides the BCS? I mean what better way to  determine sports championships then by having nerdy computer guys using programs to analyze stats that determine a National Championship…Right…? For me personally, I like college football more then college basketball, even though I love both. But when it comes to the championships, college basketball wins by miles! I can’t even tell you how many bullshit BCS bowl games I didn’t even bother to watch this year, but you can bet your life I won’t miss one minute of march madness!

This got me to thinking, who are the teams that got MOST fucked over by the bullshit BCS system….

    5. 2004 California Loses Rose Bowl Bid - At the end of the season California was 10-1 and ahead of Texas, also 10-1, at the end of the year and all lined out for their Rose Bowl invitation. That invitation never came. Mack Brown, coach of Texas, had launched the most disgusting cry baby campaign and successfully begged his way into the Rose Bowl. The Associated Press was so disgusted with his ploy that they refused to be associated with the BCS anymore.

    4.  2006 Wisconsin is the Odd Man Out - As a Wisconsin fan, this one makes my fingers shake in angers as I even write about this now. If you don’t remember in 2006 the Badgers were 11-1 in what was arguably the best conference that year. With the BCS’s only 2 teams from each conference rule, Wisconsin was the odd man out. Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin all had more then amazing years and yet Wisconsin played in a second teir bullshit bull game, while the powder puff Notre Dame team went on to a BCS Bowl game.

    3. 2007 Georgia Finishes 2nd, Doesn’t Play a BCS Game - In 2007 Ohio State went to the National Championship… Does anyone remember how? Well they were sitting at the #5 spot but after proving their National Championship worthiness by losing to LSU, they jumped from #5 to National Championship, while Georgia (second in final rankings), didn’t even play in a BCS game… That is how good the BCS worked that year!

    2. 2001 Colorado Gets Jumped - In 2001 Nebraska went to the National Championship even though they lost their own conference. Colorado defeated Nebraska for the Big 12 chip was surpassed by the #4 Huskers who got a thumping in the National Championship by Miami.

    1. 2000 Washington AND Miami - Yes folks, in the year 2000 not ONE but TWO teams got fucked in the ass with no lube by the BCS. Oklahoma was the clear favorite this year with an undefeated historic year. But who would they play? Well Miami was ranked #2 in the country and beat Florida State earlier that year, and losing to Washington. Washington lost one to a 10-2 Oregon… Surely one of these two teams would get the bid… but what happened? Florida State, who lost to the Miami team, who lost to Washington, got the bid. Of course they got a beat down by the Sooners in the championship in yet another bullshit National Championship.

  • Steph Curry is Wack!

    curry2

So in a recent comment done by “The Chosen One” on the bandwagon post, he wrote it was okay to be on the Stephen Curry bandwagon. Can I please say that Steph Curry is a douche and won’t turn into anything in the pros.

Okay so as you know Stephen Curry because america’s true underdog last season by leading the NCAA in scoring and carrying his team to the elite 8 . They list him at 6′3″ but there is no way he is over 6 foot.

What he did last season was a great story no doubt about it, but can we please stop talking about him. Why is ESPN televising a Davidson game when you can just put on any Big East game. I will tell you why, they want to push Curry on us and show flashes of Dell Curry in the stands, which we all know Dell loves because he never got this much attention throughout his in entire 13 year career in the NBA.

I know Davidson moved Curry to the point so that it would up his draft stock but don’t kid yourself, the kid will never be anything in the pros. He shoots under the 40% mark and he wont be playing against the bum competition of the Southern Conference, he will be going against the NBA and its amazing talent of players, that will tear apart the skin and bones Curry.

I’m just saying Curry is soft, no doubt he made college basketball fun to watch, but please this guy isn’t special he just shoots 25 times a game, if I shot that much I could be averaging 28 points a game in the Southern Conference as well!

  • Best Conference in College Basketball

    bigeast

SO its almost tourney time and the most recent bracketology has the conference breakdowns as such

    ACC(8)

    Big East and Big Ten(7)

    Big 12, Pac 10, and SEC(5)

I don’t think that the Pac 10 is legit if a team like Washington is your front runner in the conference. The Big 12 other than Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas who do you really have strong? Texas? I doubt anyone thinks Texas is a contender. The SEC is alright but I don’t think they have one team that could stake claim to being in the upper echelon of teams in the country. The Big 10 is pretty soft in my opinion. Purdue is overrated. The only team that has a chance to go all the way is Michigan State because all the other teams in the league are soft as hell. Now it comes down to the two conferences that are worth a damn The ACC has UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson and Florida State all in the top 25. Lets not kid ourselves Clemson and Florida State don’t have a chance to advance and I’m close to throwing Wake in that boat, in my opinion only UNC and Duke have a chance. The Big East is hands down, no doubt about the best conference in America. I mean 5 teams in the top 10 can you say d-o-m-i-n-a-t-i-o-n? I would take the top 6 teams in the Big East over any team in America. I guarantee that a Big East team wins the entire thing. If you disagree with that you’re an idiot!

  • Better Pro: Hasheem Thabeet or Blake Griffin?

    hasheemthabeetblakegriffin

So as we all know by now it will more than likely come down to Griffin winning the player of the year award, but it brings up a question of who is going to have the better pro career?

I don’t think that there is a question that Thabeet will be the better pro and have the longer career.  I understand that Griffin has more talent, but keep in mind that Thabeet has only been playing basketball for 4 years, so he is a raw talent with a 7′3″ frame compared to Griffin who is going to be a 6′10″ power forward. I understand that Charles Barkley is probably the best power forward ever to play and was only 6′7″. However, unlike Barkley, Griffen is soft, he isn’t going to be effective in the pros. I see Griffin being basically a Charles Oakley type where as I can see Thabeet having maybe a Hakeem career, if he can develop a shot.
