Papa Bears Easy Money Pick Of The Week

sportsbook

One of my favorite things about the NFL season is betting. I think the same can be said for a lot of football fans world-wide. The advice I offer is strictly optional, never make a bet you don’t feel comfortable with or you will just grow to resent me.

My Parlay Card (TEASER) Week 7:

Packers: -3
Colts: -8
Falcons: +10

And my EASY MONEY PICK OF THE WEEK IS:
Falcons: +4 (hell I even took them to win straight up)

Good luck this week, Win some $$$

  • The NFL Won’t Budge On Overtime Rules

    nflot

After further review, the NFL overtime rules won’t change.

NFL competition committee co-chairman Rich McKay, speaking on a national conference call, said there will be no adjustment to the current overtime rules. The committee met for 10 days in Naples, Fla., and after consulting players and conducting a league wide survey of the 32 clubs, there wasn’t enough support to make any proposal to change the current overtime rules, which were created to minimize the chance of ties.

There has been a recent push by fans for each team to have a possession in overtime. Players expressed concerns about safety issues if the current rules were to be changed. McKay said there has been a growing concern about the increasing number of games decided on the first possession after the overtime coin toss.

In 2008, the team that won the coin toss also won the game on the first overtime series 43.4 percent of the time. Overall, the team that won the coin toss also won the game 63 percent of the time regardless of the number of overtime possessions.

In other competitive items that will be discussed at next week’s owners meeting in Dana Point, Calif., the committee recommended a reseeding proposal for the draft order in future years. Under the proposal, the 20 teams that didn’t make the playoffs would be seeded based on their record as it is currently formatted. The change would involve teams making the playoffs. Those playoffs teams would be seeded in slots 21 through 32 but they would drop in the positions based on how long they lasted in the playoffs.

This brings up a few points. First of all the NFL not changing the OT rules seems stupid to me. If the fans are begging for it, then why not try to come up with a better scenario. I don’t think there are too many people who want to watch a GREAT game that ends regulation in a tie and then virtually be decided by a coin flip!

Secondly, the new seeding rule is very smart. I actually can’t believe they don’t do that now. In my fantasy league we realized we made that error after ONE year and fixed it immediately!

  • Want To Own Part Of The Steelers?

    steelers

The Rooney’s are the family who owns the Steelers and Art Rooney II is the president. He announced that they are currently seeking investors to buy out his father’s (Dan Rooney), brother’s shares of the franchise that would separate the family’s gaming interest and satisfy the NFL’s rules regarding ownership equity.

They go on to say that all potential investors must first be approved by the NFL, and appear before the NFL’s financial committee next week. They are not saying who the potential investors could be but said “One of the names is very recognizable.”

If the name is in fact very recognizable, it leads me to wonder. Is having a big celebrity face on a franchise a good thing? Does, for example, having Mark Cuban around help or hurt? Thoughts?

  • Donte Stallworth Hits And Kills Pedestrian

    stallworth

Miami Beach police said Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth hit and killed a pedestrian with his Bentley Saturday morning on the McArthur causeway.

Police said Stallworth was headed toward the beach when he hit a 49-year-old man around 7 a.m.

The victim was near a crosswalk, but it’s not clear if he was crossing legally.

Stallworth, 28, was cooperating, and no charges have been filed.

Officers drew blood to test for drugs or alcohol, which is routine, but police said it was too early to tell if Stallworth was impaired or violating traffic laws.

Stallworth owns two condos in Miami not far from the McArthur causeway.

Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns as a free agent before last season.

  • Madden = Real Life?

    madden

OK So I know there is a lot of Madden addicts out there. I am sure there are a lot of sports game addicts in general out there. We sports fans use our sports games to live a dream that we were never able to accomplish. Ok enough with the psycho babel, this article isn’t about that. It is about comparing Madden to the real NFL.

How realistic do you feel the player attributes are? I always hear people say “dude in Madden he is the man,” and trust me, I am guilty of dropping that gem myself, often. Or “I don’t know, but it madden he is fast as hell,” something along those lines sound familiar? And if you are thinking, why Madden? Couldn’t you say this for any sports game, ya I prolly could, but Madden in my favorite and most popular, so shut up. It is my article I can use whatever game I want.

Anyway… The question I am trying to ask is, Is Madden accurate? Personally I feel like they do a great job trying to make the game as realistic as possible, but lets be honest. I am sure on the lower caliber players they just give them some general attributes that they have ready. I am also sure that they overrate some players like crazy. It seems like there is always a couple every year that have no business being 99’s. You also have the fact that Madden can be played on different difficulty settings. Just because you play your franchise on Pro and had 45 picks with Fred Thomas, don’t tell me how awesome he is and that you don’t know why he isn’t a starter. “Dude I had 50 TD’s and 5000 passing yards in one season with Charlie Batch, how is he not starting in the NFL?”

In conclusion, Madden is THE best game ever made, no doubt. But don’t take everything too literally, in the end it is a video game, but GTA4 on the other hand, that is real life. Do everything you see in that game.

  • Injured Much? Top 10 Most Injury Prone Athletes

    injuredmuch

Chipper Jones got hurt in the WBC for his like 100th time in his career and it just got me to wondering, if he is one of the most injury prone athletes ever, I know he’s not out for any significant time but dude is always hurt.

So out of the three major sports I compiled a list of Injury prone players.

    1. Tracy McGrady- One of the most talented players ever, but can’t finish a season ever.

    2. Michael Redd- One of the best shooters in the game but he gets hurt every day(Worst player to build a franchise around)

    3. Yao Ming- Guaranteed to miss 10 games a season, minimum

    4. Grant Hill-Just think what he could have become, but the injuries in Detroit killed him

    5. Greg Oden- I know he is still only a second year guy, but dude even had to sit out at Ohio State because of injuries

    6. Ken Griffey Jr.- He would have 900 home runs right now and we wouldn’t have to put an asterisk on the home run record but it seems like as soon as he went to the Reds he couldn’t stay on the field.

    7. Chipper Jones- Would have been the NL MVP last season but once again spent to much time on the DL. It is a for gone conclusion each season Chipper will spend time on the DL.

    8. Donovan McNabb- Except last season, the past 5 years he has been forced to miss playing time because of injuries. 3 seasons ago he was scorching the league and then got hurt, missed a chance to win an MVP.

    9. Brian Westbrook- Every game for the past 3 years he has been a game time decision, he literally can’t stay healthy for a full week.

    10. Antonio Gates, Dallas Clark and Todd Heap- All 3 elite tight ends are constantly getting injured and their teams offense depend on their big name tight ends to be healthy.

I’m personally going to say that Michael Redd is hands down the most injury prone athlete, hes making a little under 16 million dollars a year to do what? Sit on the sidelines and watch his team fight for a playoff spot. I’m just saying think about what the Bucks could do with the payroll they are paying Redd to constantly get hurt and leave the Bucks high and dry. I hate Michael Redd and Herb Kohl for allowing that contract to even be offered!

  • NASCAR Isn’t A Sport

    nascar

The most annoying thing in the world is flipping on ESPN and seeing cars driving around in a circle, I’m sorry people but NASCAR isn’t a sport.

I really don’t know how people can sit around on a Sunday for three hours and watch cars drive around a circle. I live in Wisconsin and it pissing me off when I see more Matt Kenseth stuff than a team like the Brewers. NASCAR isn’t a sport people. I drove y car today to the gas station so did I just participate in a sporting event? Or does it not count because it wasn’t on TV? Well if thats a case I will get a buddy to film me driving around the block and damn I am now an athlete, shit my 67 years old grandma drives everyday so that means shes gotta be a phenomenal athlete. I’m just saying there is no athletic activity going on in NASCAR its a bunch of out of shape guys driving in a circle.

I’m sorry but on Sportscenter I would like to see more highlights of actual athletes instead of Tony Stewarts fat ass bitching at a guy for bumping him.

  • LaDainian Tomlinson Will Leave San Diego

    tomlinson

If you haven’t been keeping up with LT’s current status with San Diego, then here is a quick run down:

    1. The Chargers put the non-exclusive franchise tag on their new guy Darren Sproles
    2. LT and The Chargers have been going back and forth trying to reach a new agreement
    3. They need a new agreement because they want to pay LT much less money
    4. For the last 2 years LT has been injured for the playoffs and only had 1162 yards last season

So in my best judgment, even though both sides have been trying to be as nice as possible while still saying “fuck off”, is that LT will not play in San Diego this year. This should be very exciting for some teams and should be on the top of their priority list to let him know he is wanted with their squads. Even though LT was a disappointment last year with injury, I think he is still an elite back.

Where could he go? This is a list of some possible teams that could be VERY interested:

    1. Cleveland Browns - With last year being a disappointment and Jamal Lewis being possibly the most used and abused RB in the league, LT would fit in nicely. He could add some much needed POP to a offense that does not have much of anything.

    2. Denver Broncos - With no clear #1 back in Denver, LT could provide that consistency and comfort they need. Correll Buckhalter, LaMont Jordan, and J.J. Arrington might get a little pissed, but lets face it, if they combined all their talent into one super RB, it still would not match the talent of a back like LT.

    3. Indianapolis Colts - Dominic Rhodes is more then likely headed out the door and Addai can’t seem, to stay healthy carrying the entire load. LT might be the guy to help them out. Tomlinson and Peyton Manning both share the same agent, and that usually is a selling point. They will prolly have a tough time making cap room for what LT is asking for.

    4. Detriot Lions - I don’t know if you could ever convince LT to play his last few seasons that he has left with a rebuilding team, but he would definitely help their resurrection. The Lions have not had a good RB since the great Barry Sanders.

    5. Houston Texans - It would be tough to convince LT to split carries with upcoming star Steve Slaton, but if they could, it would be a decent fit. Slaton’s career would only be greater and longer with help from LT carrying the load. I’m not sure if they can find the cap room either…

    6. San Francisco 49ers - Gore and LT would make a pretty nice duo, and keep both of backs healthy and fresh. San Fran obviously has a desire to add a big name to their roster since they almost got Warner and then even expressed interest in bringing back T.O.

    7. New Orleans Saints - With the Saints letting Deuce go, they might be interesting in adding in a RB like LT. LT played with Brees and I am sure he would love to have LT back to share the load with Bush. Offense however was not a problem last year for the Saints, and I don’t think they could afford to add yet ANOTHER offensive weapon like LT.

    8. Arizona Cardinals - What a great fit for LT in Zona. When the Edge is released like he wants to be, then that leaves the perfect opening for LT to enter.

    9. Green Bay Packers - One of the better offenses in the league, but lack a true superstar at the RB position. The Packers do not have a good history of signing big name free agents, so don’t hold your breath.

There are obviously more options, since basically ANY team would LOVE to add Tomlinson if they could afford the luxury. Remember, just because a team might have a decent back already does not mean they would not be interested in acquiring LT. Most teams in the league want an amazing RB duo these days. It really just comes down to cap room, since most teams would take him in a heartbeat if they could.

  • Terrell Owens is a Buffalo Bill

    owensbills

Well all of my predictions where wrong, because today, Terrell Owens signed with the Buffalo Bills.  It didn’t take long for him to find a team that wanted him, and he quickly inked a 1 year $6.5 million dollar guaranteed contract.

“I’m leaving America’s team [for] North America’s team,” Owens said at a news conference in Buffalo on Saturday.

    Owens spoke on his feelings for the Bills;

“I must move on, and it’s another beginning for me,” Owens said. “If I can be that extra added piece to get them to the playoffs, then that’s what I’m here for. I looked at the defensive side of ball and offensive side of the ball, and these guys have all the pieces.”

Well I got two things to say about that… First, Terrell Owens obviously didn’t watch the 2008 NFL season because the Bills are terrible. Second, his attitude should change after about week 2 I would say when he starts telling the media how terrible his teammates are.

I did not see signing with the Bills coming, but I can see their thinking. What do they have to lose? Are they going to risk ruining their chemistry and finishing last in their division? Oh wait, they already did that with out him. They were also smart to signing him for ONLY ONE YEAR. Now if it doesn’t work out then they won’t have to worry about it. Guaranteeing the money was a little silly. They should have had at least a “If we don’t bench him for being a drama queen” clause.

In the end, this is going to be one eventful season for Bills fans. Owens is going to eat Trent Edwards alive. Lee Evans may have mixed feelings about the situation, at least Owens takse some of the heat off Evans on the field now!

  • Terrell Owens Headed To The Bay Area?

    owens

Take into consideration that Owens is the biggest drama queen in NFL history, his ploys for attention make you think he did not get enough as a child, and his infectious cancer to team locker rooms spreads faster then herpes in a whore house, but Owens WILL get signed.

“There are several teams that are interested in signing Terrell,” Rosenhaus said. “I have been in negotiations with these teams. I will not identify the teams at this time. Terrell and I expect to have a deal in place by the end of next week if not sooner.”

So where will he land? Sources tell me that he will likely end up in the bay area in either Oakland or a return to San Francisco. We all know Al Davis has a history of taking on troubled play makers, and when the topic of Owens came up during a interview on KNBR in San Francisco, 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan simply said, “We don’t close any doors.”

But where else would be a “good” fit for the talented attention seeker? Recently Herm Edwards said that Tennessee would be an amazing fit. A veteran locker room, with an established veteran coach MIGHT be enough to contain the cancer. And lets face it, Owens would help a good Titans team who lacks in the WR core.

I also think that the Bears would be a good fit for Owens. I don’t know if Lovie Smith can control him, but it seem like they would get along… The Bears need a  play maker WR maybe more then any team in the NFL.

The topic is open to discussion since no one really knows what will happen. What do you think?
