LaDainian Tomlinson Will Leave San Diego
If you haven’t been keeping up with LT’s current status with San Diego, then here is a quick run down:
1. The Chargers put the non-exclusive franchise tag on their new guy Darren Sproles
2. LT and The Chargers have been going back and forth trying to reach a new agreement
3. They need a new agreement because they want to pay LT much less money
4. For the last 2 years LT has been injured for the playoffs and only had 1162 yards last season
So in my best judgment, even though both sides have been trying to be as nice as possible while still saying “fuck off”, is that LT will not play in San Diego this year. This should be very exciting for some teams and should be on the top of their priority list to let him know he is wanted with their squads. Even though LT was a disappointment last year with injury, I think he is still an elite back.
Where could he go? This is a list of some possible teams that could be VERY interested:
1. Cleveland Browns - With last year being a disappointment and Jamal Lewis being possibly the most used and abused RB in the league, LT would fit in nicely. He could add some much needed POP to a offense that does not have much of anything.
2. Denver Broncos - With no clear #1 back in Denver, LT could provide that consistency and comfort they need. Correll Buckhalter, LaMont Jordan, and J.J. Arrington might get a little pissed, but lets face it, if they combined all their talent into one super RB, it still would not match the talent of a back like LT.
3. Indianapolis Colts - Dominic Rhodes is more then likely headed out the door and Addai can’t seem, to stay healthy carrying the entire load. LT might be the guy to help them out. Tomlinson and Peyton Manning both share the same agent, and that usually is a selling point. They will prolly have a tough time making cap room for what LT is asking for.
4. Detriot Lions - I don’t know if you could ever convince LT to play his last few seasons that he has left with a rebuilding team, but he would definitely help their resurrection. The Lions have not had a good RB since the great Barry Sanders.
5. Houston Texans - It would be tough to convince LT to split carries with upcoming star Steve Slaton, but if they could, it would be a decent fit. Slaton’s career would only be greater and longer with help from LT carrying the load. I’m not sure if they can find the cap room either…
6. San Francisco 49ers - Gore and LT would make a pretty nice duo, and keep both of backs healthy and fresh. San Fran obviously has a desire to add a big name to their roster since they almost got Warner and then even expressed interest in bringing back T.O.
7. New Orleans Saints - With the Saints letting Deuce go, they might be interesting in adding in a RB like LT. LT played with Brees and I am sure he would love to have LT back to share the load with Bush. Offense however was not a problem last year for the Saints, and I don’t think they could afford to add yet ANOTHER offensive weapon like LT.
8. Arizona Cardinals - What a great fit for LT in Zona. When the Edge is released like he wants to be, then that leaves the perfect opening for LT to enter.
9. Green Bay Packers - One of the better offenses in the league, but lack a true superstar at the RB position. The Packers do not have a good history of signing big name free agents, so don’t hold your breath.
There are obviously more options, since basically ANY team would LOVE to add Tomlinson if they could afford the luxury. Remember, just because a team might have a decent back already does not mean they would not be interested in acquiring LT. Most teams in the league want an amazing RB duo these days. It really just comes down to cap room, since most teams would take him in a heartbeat if they could.

Yeah I guess ya never know. I just dont see how you get rid of him, he might be out of his prime but I would still take him over Sproles. by the way how did it feel when you hit the 100 post nark??

LOL @ Respect and Papa for both being huge losers, and LT stays in SD next year. They franchised Sproles because of his big play ability but no way he can sustain through a season with 400 carries like LT. LT has only missed one regular season game the past two seasons and last time I checked 1162 yards was good enough to start for most NFL teams, and we consider that a down year, Just shows you how good this guy has been in the past..

yeah well AJ Smith is the worst GM in all of football, the guy literally changes directions like every three weeks, in like a month he will pull the franchise tag on sproles and trade him for. lets say, Rudi Johnson. This is the same guy who drove Brees out of SD, and has made most of the guys on that team walk on eggshells cause they’re so afraid of being shipped out by this Hitler of the NFL..

I enjoy seeing the Denver situation implode….anyone with connections to Bill Belicheck is on my list to fail miserably.
