NASCAR Isn’t A Sport

nascar

The most annoying thing in the world is flipping on ESPN and seeing cars driving around in a circle, I’m sorry people but NASCAR isn’t a sport.

I really don’t know how people can sit around on a Sunday for three hours and watch cars drive around a circle. I live in Wisconsin and it pissing me off when I see more Matt Kenseth stuff than a team like the Brewers. NASCAR isn’t a sport people. I drove y car today to the gas station so did I just participate in a sporting event? Or does it not count because it wasn’t on TV? Well if thats a case I will get a buddy to film me driving around the block and damn I am now an athlete, shit my 67 years old grandma drives everyday so that means shes gotta be a phenomenal athlete. I’m just saying there is no athletic activity going on in NASCAR its a bunch of out of shape guys driving in a circle.

I’m sorry but on Sportscenter I would like to see more highlights of actual athletes instead of Tony Stewarts fat ass bitching at a guy for bumping him.

haha, I hate nascar, please remove from espn immediately. You have a point here though we should of filmed spree races now that would have been an event worth watching

There was always a problem with that though whoever got the black spree was going to dominate because Tom wouldn’t take the govner off his spree

I hate nascar just as much as the next guy, but you can’t cut a sport down because of the basic fundamentals of it. If that was the case, the argument could be made that tennis isn’t a sport because they simply hit a ball back and forth, or soccer isn’t sport because they run up and down the field trying to kick a ball past the goalkeep.

I would say that nascar is a motorsport but the drivers are not athletes. It makes me sick when people say that they might not be physical athletes but rather mental athletes. So are surgeons, chess players, or World Memory Champions athletes?

You have to be semi athletic to be good at Tennis though to be good, you have to be able to run and have enough strength to hit the ball over the need. Soccer you have to be able to run and get the ball and kick the ball. Im just saying that you can’t be considered an athlete when your driving a car.

I agree, but too often we mix the terms “sport” and “athlete.” For instance, the Tiger is a phenomenal athlete, Jon Daly isn’t yet they both play the same sport. My point is that “sport” should not be synonymous with athlete. In my opinion, sport is anything that requires intense training and is competitive in nature. Athletes, however, are products of intense physical training. There is a difference, but I doubt I’ve made it clear.

Holding your pee for 4 hours makes you an athlete, drivng at 200 mph makes you an athlete, practicing all week for a competition makes you an athlete…. Are poker players athletes? What about skateboarding, table tennis, bowling, riding snowmobiles?? this debate could go on for years point is come sunday millions of people across the country are sitting in their trailer homes, drinking beer, chewing cope, and screaming GO! GO! GO! and cars that appear to be moving 15 mph around an oval track…

“And poker is a sport now… I can’t believe it. Now when dad loses all the money and his son asks why he can’t go to college his dad can say, cuz i’m a shitty athlete”

I think the only sports that the chosen one named that is actually a sport is skateboarding, I bet you couldn’t anything those dudes do

LOL and I bet that you couldn’t drive a car 200mph in a pack of other cars driving the same speed trying to keep you from passing them, same goes with the stuff pro ping pong players, snow mobilers, or bowlers do… but that doesnt mean they should be considered a sport just because you cant do them… I am not saying i disagree with anything you said, I just don’t know id i can pick and choose what is a “sport” and what isn’t. I think saying who is an “athlete” and who isnt, like the chosen one said, is a better question.

I have had the chance to ride in a NASCAR, and from what i experienced it’s a hell of a lot of work. Keeping that car under control at almost 200 miles an hour constantly for 2-3 hours take a lot of strength mentally and physically. Those guys are in great shape. It’s a sport of endurance. I call it a sport, but I do agree that it’s almost impossible to watch on TV, but awesome in person.
